LIFE Arctos | Actions aiming at preserving the brown bear

The project aimed at preserving the brown bear populations living on Alps and Apennines, which are hindered by a growing intolerance due to human-wildlife conflicts. The project delivered a reduction of the impact of brown bears on agriculture and an improvement of the level of coexistence between local communities and bears.

The project foresaw both communication activities targeting stakeholders (students, tour operators and farmers) and field-based activities such as the increasing of suitable areas for bears and the provision of electrified fences to farmers and breeders.
